The Role The Senior Management Accountant will be actively involved in the development and monitoring of the annual budget, forecasting, financial analysis and other tasks in the preparation of timely and efficient financial information to support operational managers in monitoring and achieving their financial goals. It is responsible for reviewing the accuracy of transactions, ensuring system efficiencies in accounting coding structures and accounting software processes, general ledger and sub-ledger reconciliations, cash flow forecasts, compilation of monthly management reports, quarterly, annual and ad hoc government compliance reporting including the QFR and the ACFR, compilation of data for industry benchmarking and preparation for year-end accounts finalisation to audit readiness. The role requires providing leadership, assistance and direction around the day-to-day operations and the long-term goals of the accounting function. It also requires analysis of systems for improvement and data interpretation for trends and developments to provide recommendations and to drive implementation of new systems and processes. - Participate in the budget preparation process, reporting and monitoring of the budget
- Confirm integrity of financial data for reporting functionality.
- Prepare monthly journals and assist in finalisation of month-end processes
- Compilation of monthly management reports
- Prepare detailed financial analysis and advice.
- Partner with Business Unit and Program Managers to develop value-driven reporting that supports their operational and strategic needs.
- Provide financial guidance and strengthen operational team capabilities in budgeting and overall financial management.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet and subledger reconciliations
- Compilation of financial data for sector benchmark reporting
- Contribute to the preparation of the Quarterly Financial Report (QFR), Aged Care Provider Financial Report (ACFR)
- Annual government and ad hoc funding and grant acquittal compliance reporting
- BAS preparation and submission
- Cash flow projections
- Review, recommend and implement process improvements
- Provide leadership to all staff to achieve the standards and goals of MiCare Ltd in the finance team and support the commitment to teamwork
- Act as a professional role model and credible resource by demonstrating and disseminating knowledge
- Ensure that all tasks are carried out in a professional manner
- Contribute to the completion of the accounting team monthly objectives.
- Contribute to completing audit requirements
- Identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to the Finance Manager
- Transition to new software programs should organisational requirements necessitate.
- The position may be required to complete other relevant duties as directed.
What We’re Looking For Knowledge - Knowledge and experience in the accounting for residential aged care and retirement living.
- Excellent numeracy skills and good knowledge of accounting processing systems and best practice
- Working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, statutory requirements, regulations and practices as applicable to Residential Aged Care sector
- Demonstrated experience in management accounting, reporting and budgeting
Skills - Previous experience in a similar role, including reconciliations, compilation of reports, cash flow, budgeting
- Accounting experience within the aged care sector and/or a grant funded industry
- Experience in MS Excel (advanced), Word, Outlook and broad experience of a range of accounting software programs
