Chef Assistant
Permanent Part time - Monday - Friday 6 hours per day (Flexible between 7am-5.00pm)

The Role

The Chef Assistant will be skilful in the current knowledge and practice of all aspects of day to day tasks associated with the position. This position requires a motivated experienced person, who is flexible and has strong interpersonal skills that foster a collaborative approach to quality service delivery.

  • Food Preparation & Service
    • Assist with preparation of meals in line with menus, recipes, and dietary requirements
    • Support texture-modified, special diets (e.g. pureed, minced & moist, allergies) as directed
    • Assist in plating, portion control, and timely meal service
    • Ensure meals are presented attractively and served at correct temperatures
  • Food Safety & Hygiene Compliance
    • Follow Food Safety Program, HACCP, and relevant legislation
    • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
    • Correct use of PPE, handwashing, and safe food handling practices
    • Assist with temperature checks, labelling, and stock rotation (FIFO)
  • Cleaning & Kitchen Maintenance
    • Clean kitchen equipment, benches, floors, and work areas as per cleaning schedules
    • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
    • Report faulty equipment, maintenance issues, or safety hazards promptly
  • Stock Handling & Storage
    • Assist with receiving, checking, and storing deliveries
    • Ensure correct labelling, dating, and storage of food items
    • Support stock rotation and minimise wastage
  • Resident-Centred Care & Teamwork
    • Interact respectfully and professionally with residents
    • Respond appropriately to resident needs and feedback
    • Work cooperatively with chefs, catering staff, nursing, and lifestyle teams
    • Follow directions and contribute positively to team culture
  • Work Health & Safety (WHS)
    • Follow WHS policies and safe work procedures
    • Use equipment safely and report incidents or near misses
    • Participate in training and toolbox talks as required

What We’re Looking For

 

Qualifications

  • A qualification relevant to the role and function of this position
  • Hold a current certificate in food safety / food handling

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a food production/ Café/ restaurant/ hotel or an Aged care Kitchens.

Essential skills

  • The ability and willingness to speak or learn Dutch and an understanding of the Dutch culture and history
  • The ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner within an ethno-specific environment
  • A preparedness to work to the 10 principles of the Eden Alternative philosophy.
  • Self-motivated with a flexible, caring and patient attitude.

To be considered for this role you must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident. The successful applicant must satisfactorily complete all pre-employment checks, including National Police Check and NDIS Check.
